They were one of the great pioneers of Britain's rail network and were responsible for the rebuilding of Waterloo and its becoming one of the great stations of the world. Their trains offered all three classes of passenger Breakfast, Luncheon and Dining Car carriages which served Table d'Hôte meals at set times during the day and evening. This two shillings and sixpence (12 1\/2 pence in decimal) luncheon menu from October 1906 would have cost the 2010 (only data available) equivalent of  £10.50 using the retail price index or £42.25 using average earnings. So not inexpensive whichever measure you use.
