This menu is from their second much larger and busier location that opened in 1929, just up the street from the original that closed in 1957, the year that Lindy died. \u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe newer location attracted a colorful crowd, a who’s who of Jews and gentiles, celebrities, columnists, writers, and aspiring actors and singers hoping to be noticed. Tablehopping became a dining room pastime. Lindy’s was known for Jewish but non-kosher food (note the Genuine Virginia Ham and Turkey sandwich as well as the shellfish on the menu) and particularly for the popular gigantic sandwiches.
