At the time, there were only seven hotels on the Strip.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Sands played host to Frank Sinatra and the ‘Rat Pack’ of Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Dean Martin in a series of legendary gigs known as the Summit. These took place in January and February 1960. In 1966, aged 50, he recorded “Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie and his Orchestra”, Arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. The album captures the absolute essence of Frank Sinatra in his ‘room’ in his ‘town’… in fact he owned 2% of The Sands so in a sense it really was his.
