Opened in the 1930s, the Pickwick complex housed the city’s bus terminal, an 11-storey hotel, a penthouse radio station and a large office complex, on a prime site in the financial district of the city, near to the courthouse. At its peak in the 1950s, the bus terminal saw more than 4,400 departures a month. By 1972 the hotel had become an old people’s home. The bus terminal moved away. And in 1996, a fire damaged large parts of the complex.
