This was a series of programs enacted by President Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1933 and 1939 to combat the Great Depression.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt provided federally funded jobs for millions of unemployed Americans, including projects for thousands of artists. Asked why the government should provide jobs for unemployed artists, New Deal administrator Harry Hopkins replied, ‘Hell, they've got to eat just like other people.’\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBrookhaven bar was located in the picturesque hamlet of Wingdale in New York State and we think this menu is later than the New Deal era and from the 1940s or the early 1950s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cocktails list mentions a Scarlett O Hara, named after the heroine in the multi-Oscar winning film Gone with the Wind, released in 1939.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnder Fancy Mixed Drinks, there’s the famous Zombie cocktail for one dollar, invented in 1934 by Donn Beach at his Don the Beachcomber restaurant in Hollywood, California.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe story goes that the iconic cocktail made of fruit juices and three types of rum was mixed by Beach for a customer who complained of a hangover before an important business meeting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the customer returned a few days later, he complained that the remedy hadn’t worked because it had made him feel ‘like a zombie.’  The founding father of tiki culture was highly amused and put it on his drinks menu, limiting it to two per customer because of its alcoholic potency.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGallery quality Giclée print on natural white, matte, 100% cotton rag, acid and lignin free archival paper using Epson Ultrachrome HD archival inks.
